IT MAY have been the battle of the basement dwellers but it certainly didn't seem like it.Kilanas FC barged into the win column with a 7-1 drubbing of Najip FC in the DST Super League last night.
Contested at the Balapan Track & Field in Berakas, the duo of Mohamed Azmi Hj Zainin and Mohd Nor Hidayattulah Hj Zaini each bagged a brace in what was their first win of the season.
It was all Kilanas FC right from kick-off and they opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute.
Najip FC goalkeeper Md Norshah Md Harris had fumbled the ball allowing Mohamed Azmi to slot it home easily to give Kilanas FC the lead.
They doubled their lead in the 19th minute after Md Norshah had parried an Ak Khairul Lizam Pg Bungsu effort on the right but for Mohamed Azmi to pounce on the rebound.
It was 3-0 in the 29th minute after Mohammad Khalid Wassadi Salleh rifled in his shot from the left.
It was more one way traffic as Kilanas FC were not done before the break. Khairul Lizam got his name on the scoresheet after he outran his defender to fire it home to make it 4-0.
Najip FC made a change in between the sticks by putting in Md Fuad Lusa after the break.
He was called into action immediately and made a save after an attempt on goal by Mohd Khalid.
Kilanas FC continued their barrage on goal and finally scored their first in the second half in the 62nd minute.
Substitute Muhd Nor Aliffullah Hj Zaini had outmuscled his defender to the ball but instead of firing on a tight angle pulled it back outside the box for Mohd Nor Hidayatullah to smash it home from outside the box making it 5-0.
Muhd Nor Aliffullah was once again involved in the sixth goal for Kilanas FC after he was brought down in the 79th minute.
Nazirul Zulhilmi Ahmad converted the ensuing penalty to make it 6-0.
Najip FC went on the attack at the restart and won a spot kick after Md Daud Hj Tengah was brought down in the box.
Huzaimi Hj Tengah drove it down the middle to beat Kilanas FC keeper Mohammad Faisal Hashim to make it 7-1.
Mohd Nor Hidayatullah found the back of the net for the second time in the match after Najip FC failed to clear on a freekick allowing the former to score from inside the box in the 84th minute.
Kilanas FC assistant coach, Md Radzuan Hj Madali, never expected such a scoreline.
"We had a tough first four games and we were complacent. Tonight (Monday night) we remained focus for 90 minutes and played with discipline," said Md Radzuan after the win.
"We finally got to enjoy the type of football that we play. We could have scored more goals but seven is a very good number. I'm very happy because we have been putting in extra training," he added.
"We couldn't afford to lose this match. This win will be a motivation for the upcoming matches and the team really exceeded expectations tonight," continued Md Radzuan.
Najip FC is up to eighth spot with four points while Najip FC remain the only winless team with zero points after five matches and is rooted at the bottom of the 10-team table.
